Our classes are unique and some follow a sequence. In order to take Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, or Modern you must take Ballet. Ballet terminology and technique is needed to be successful in the genres below. You must take ballet and jazz to enroll in lyrical. You must take ballet, jazz and lyrical to enroll in contemporary. Modern is added when the teacher feels the student is ready. This is typically age 12 and higher.

Ballet - A basic ballet class consists of several segments, usually: barre, center, adagio, allegro, and reverence. Ballet is the basis for most forms of dance. It develops balance, control, strength, flexibility and the technique required of an accomplished dancer.

Pre-Pointe - Offered to ballet students who are not yet ready for pointe to further develop and strengthen the muscles necessary to go en pointe in the future. Pre-pointe classes stress correct ballet alignment and ballet technique. Students will not need pointe shoes to start this class. It is possible they may not have them all year. They will need to meet many requirements before pointe shoes are needed. Must be taken with a 90 minute ballet class and be enrolled in Jazz and Lyrical. They would be permitted to take if enrolled in two 90 minute ballet classes.

Pointe - Offered to dancers after completing Pre-Pointe and meeting class requirements. Must be taken with a 90 minute ballet class and be enrolled in Jazz and Lyrical. They would be permitted to take if enrolled in two 90 minute ballet classes.

Tap - Tap dancers will develop their coordination, rhythmic understanding, and musicality in an upbeat and supportive environment. We focus on facilitating the development of each student's phrasing, timing, coordination, and speed of movement Students learn traditional tap vocabulary while finding their own style and discovering their own approach to tap dancing. Students learn with a strong emphasis on musicality through warm-ups, time-steps, choreography, and developing proper tap technique. Ages 3-18

Jazz - Jazz dance is characterized by isolation movements, complex leg, foot, and arm movements, as well as stunning jumps and twists. Therefore, jazz dance becomes apparent as a style of dance with a very diverse and energetic appearance and a lot of creativity and expressiveness. Must take Ballet class to enroll in Jazz.

Contemporary - This class is offered once the director feels the student is ready (typically this is between the beg/int and Int level). Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. It moves at a more accelerated pace, utilizing improvisation., floor work, and partnering. Ballet, Lyrical, and Jazz is required to take contemporary.

Lyrical - This class is offered once the director feels the student is ready (typically this is between the beg/int and Int level). Lyrical is a fusion of ballet and jazz, with expressive motion that tells a story. Students will learn lyrical technique along with how to express emotion through movement. Ballet and Jazz is required to take lyrical.

Acro - Acro is taught by an acrobatic arts certified instructor. In acro students will focus on strength, flexibility, balance, limbering and tumbling. Ages 3-18 Ballet and Jazz is required to take acro once they reach a certain level.

Aerial Hoops - An Aerial Hoop is a circular steel ring suspended from an overhead point in the air from which a performer can spin, swing and demonstrate skills of great flexibility, strength and grace. Often used by circus performers, you may recognize Aerial Hoop from the world-famous performances of Cirque du Soleil. Our Aerial Hoop program follows the syllabus from Acrobatic Arts. This professional curriculum has a strong focus on training spatial awareness, flexibility, strength and balance, developing a well-rounded aerialist. Students who train in our Aerial Arts program become balanced, strong, flexible and more fearless on stage. Acro or Tumbling is required to take Hoops.

Tumbling - tumbling is taught by an acrobatic arts certified instructor. In tumbling students will focus on strength, flexibility, balance, limbering and tumbling. This class will not be in the recital.

Aerial Silks - This class is designed for students enrolled in a 90 minute Acro class. Students will learn how to climb and go upside down along with the emphasis on proper form and engagement of correct muscle groups. Introductory in the footlocks, hip keys and beginning shapes will be explored. This class will be taught more similar to aerial silks yoga. Expect to come away from this class with a new and more profound connection to your core while developing upper body & lower body strength and flexibility. Circuit training will take place both on the floor as well as on the silkThis class will not have a costume or participate in the recitals.

Musical Theater - Musical Theatre class will focus on learning proper dance technique while exploring the various dance styles used in Broadway shows. Emphasis will also be placed on learning performance skills such as connecting with the audience and telling a story through dance and facial expressions. Students in B/I 2 and above can register for this class.

Hip Hop - Does your dancer want to move in a high energy environment? Then hip hop is the class for you. They will learn break dancing skills as well as music video style hip hop with one exception...all of our movement is clean and appropriate. Ages 5-18

Modern - Modern class will incorporate many of the foundations of modern dance technique, including suspension and release, fall and recovery, the use of momentum and connecting breath with movement. Dancers will explore new ways of moving in combinations, floor work and partnering, and also in various methods of improvisation. This class is offered once the director feels the student is ready. Must be enrolled in Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical & Contemporary

Creative Movement - 2-3 year olds in this fun and exciting class. Dancers will march, gallop and roll...jump, twirl, wiggle and giggle while using our minds to go on exciting adventures. Basic dance terminology will be taught in a fun and exciting way. Fine and gross motor skills are developed through dancing, props, and fun obstacle courses.

Shining Stars - Shining Stars is a specialized, but inclusive class for those students with learning differences. Students benefits include: strength, flexibility, social skills focus, coordination, and fine and gross motor skills. This class is taught by certified RWID teacher.
